Existential Philosophy Today - Finding Yourself & Living the Life You Want
Existentialism is an important idea for helping rational thinking people overcome the meaningless of life we may feel sometimes through the construction of our own individual meaning, values, and identity.
It’s an idea that regardless of life circumstances, each of us can live the life we want to, making life seem more fulfilling and meaningful.
But does this idea make sense today and can still be an effective tool to improve our subjective well-being? Some of what the original thinkers wrote now conflicts with how modern science suggests reality operates.
This video will give my thoughts on existential philosophy in the modern day, and how you can still apply and use this incredibly important idea to potentially better your life, including living the life you really want.

The Future of AI - How Humanity Can Coexist with Artificial Superintelligence & Benefit
Переглядів 2 тис.Рік тому
What’s the future of AI and humans? Can humanity realistically coexist with artificial superintelligence peacefully? If so, what might that future look like and how do we ensure it happens starting today? This article will attempt to paint a picture, called 'The Forest Scenario', of how humanity, not just a few people, could coexist with artificial superintelligence or ASI and benefit from its ...
A.I. Propaganda - Man's Most Dangerous Weapon? - Guaranteed to Affect You
Переглядів 848Рік тому
What’s the most dangerous weapon? You might answer the hydrogen bomb, and while that’s probably the most lethal on a mass scale, it’s doubtful you’ll encounter one anytime soon. It’s more likely that a common handgun will negatively affect your life, making that weapon more dangerous. Perhaps, the most dangerous weapon, though, might soon be artificial intelligently enhanced propaganda. Specifi...
Will A.I. Take Away Jobs? - A Simple Argument Why It Will Eventually Take Away Most Human Jobs

Will A.I. take away jobs? What will the future of work look like? In this short video, I’ll outline a simple argument why A.I. may be severely detrimental to human jobs in the long term, given that technological development continues to be exponential and we don’t make drastic changes to our current economic system. Various studies indicate A.I. will replace millions of jobs, but is set to crea...

Yet, people get wrapped up and attached in the meaning of these terms, thus trying to see if their beliefs and behaviors fit inside the categories. We create rigid definitions. I've always found this paradoxical in the case of Nihilists because they say that nothing has meaning or purpose, but then simultaneously construct Nihilism as such when they put boxes around what it means to be a Nihilist. I say that it's more consistent to simply drop the term and go beyond it into just living in the present and observing the wild phenomena around us.

In the near future we will be immortal. What will we do with our immortality? We will live in virtual realities where there is no AI, where everything must be done manually, so that we can find some meaning and purpose in life. Our memories will be erased, so we will forget that we are in a virtual reality. When we ‘die’ in a virtual reality, we would automatically be born in another, or reborn in the same one... We will be our own gods... Maybe we already are in one...

The cosmic will is wicked; will, altogether, is wicked, or at any rate is the source of all our endless suffering. Suffering is essential to all life, and is increased by every increase of knowledge. Will has no fixed end, which if achieved would bring contentment. Although death must conquer in the end, we pursue our futile purposes, "as we blow out a soap-bubble as long and as large as possible, although we know perfectly well that it will burst." There is no such thing as happiness, for an unfulfilled wish causes pain, and attainment brings only satiety. Instinct urges men to procreation, which brings into existence a new occasion for suffering and death; that is why shame is associated with the sexual act. Suicide is useless; the doctrine of transmigration, even if not literally true, conveys truth in the form of a myth. All this is very sad, but there is a way out, and it was discovered in India. The best of myths is that of Nirvana (which Schopenhauer interprets as extinction). This, he agrees, is contrary to Christian doctrine, but "the ancient wisdom of the human race will not be displaced by what happened in Galilee." The cause of suffering is intensity of will; the less we exercise will, the less we shall suffer. And here knowledge turns out to be useful after all, provided it is knowledge of a certain sort. The distinction between one man and another is part of the phenomenal world, and disappears when the world is seen truly. To the good man, the veil of Maya (illusion) has become transparent; he sees that all things are one, and that the distinction between himself and another is only apparent. He reaches this insight by love, which is always sympathy, and has to do with the pain of others. When the veil of Maya is lifted, a man takes on the suffering of the whole world. In the good man, knowledge of the whole quiets all volition; his will turns away from life and denies his own nature. "There arises within him a horror of the nature of which his own phenomenal existence is an expression, the kernel and inner nature of that world which is recognized as full of misery."

The internet makes everyone think they have a background in philosophy. Not this video but places like Reddit. There are many arguments against pessimism or nihilism. The arrogance of nihilists, thinking they are able to explain basically everything & having figured it out is wild af. Although nihilism claims to be the objective truth, it still is a subjective view of subjective people. We have very limited knowledge of the universe and existence. In fact, we can't even say if there is a objective meaning or not. Again its arrogant to think we learned everything there is to life and the universe. To give an example outside of the usualy Camus-storys, Albert Einstein thought there seems to be order in the universe and something or someone must have created the laws of nature. We saw the advancements of technology so ffs don't fool yourself to believe we habe figured anything out. Then, there is the logical point that one cannot reduce something as complex and subjective like the human existence to some rational factors and numbers. Emotional experiences, individualism and the different kinds of meaning a person can create for themselves and others cannot be explained away that easily. Depression and other mental illnesses are closely related to pessimistic and nihilistic thinking. Sadly people can't accept the fact that their brain might be dysfunctional and that their thought aren't „the truth!!1!!“ but some seriously depressing bs. They are deeply disconnectet from society and their fellow human beings. Also, it should be obvious how destructive this philosophy is. Like Dostojewski and Nietzsche saw it coming, moral nihilism will bring suffering and unimaginable destruction to humanity and the world. Society must overcome this poison, especially the youth gets robbed so much by it. Don't go down this path and waste your life, the „truth“ you're delusional about ruins you. It is deeply flawed and very destructive. In serious philosophy it isn't even taken seriously. And also is it very close to the incel-community soooo…

I can see where you are coming from, but even if we stopped talking about pessimism and nihilism, someone in the future will automatically become nihilistic without even knowing it is an actual thing. Because nihilism ( especially existential one) does not hijack your life by some external source, it's your own thoughts that make your ship sink. No matter how much we denied it, it will still be in the air. People had suffered, are suffering and will suffer till eternity. Because this is the truth for most nihilistic people. I get it we don't know anything about universe and meaning of life bla bla, but at very moment, the meaning of life is meaning less. You wake up, go to work, get you paycheck, pay the bills, provide for ur family. And then.. Die And from my experience, all nihilistic people are atheists, which means they don't believe in heaven, hell or reincarnation etc. Death is the end of your thoughts, your personality, your character, your views, your secrets everything. This is so serious that suic*des is an obvious option for most nihilistic people. - nihilistic dude

@@unknownking2708 first of all, thanks for your comment. I can see you think a lot about it and thats a good thing. I hope you can manage to work through it one day! Believe it or not but I was very nihilistic for a long, long time. Took me lots of time, thought and life experience to work this out. This is super personal, so I can't help you or tell you what to think or do. Don't get me wrong: I am not saying all you think is wrong. You are not my enemy. You are a „brother in thinking“; we think more about life than most people (atleast that seems to be the case because most people will never deal with those thoughts). One thing I want to say: we do not know what happens when we die, if there is nothing after death or something. I dislike peope, especially hardcore religious people, who make claims about heaven or the afterlife. But I also thinik nihilists are wrong, that theres nothing and everything is pointless. We simply do not know (yet?). Thats a fact, nobody knows. I really wish nothing but the best for you, honestly - if I can say one thing that might be helpful, I would say: stay humble and open minded. We don't know, thats fine! Its not scary or bad. Maybe we will know someday, so lets embrace the journey until then. Stay humble and don't accept absolute claims. Nobody knows, neither do I. We should stay humble and help each others in this life. Take care my friend❤

@@NicolasSchaII Thanks so much for your thoughtful and detailed reply Nicolas. I really appreciate that you took the time to write such a long comment about this deep question, especially nowadays when it feels like fewer people think deeply about these things. First off all, congrats on overcoming nihilism. That’s a big deal and shows your strength and thoughtfulness. People like you, who share their deep thoughts and experiences, are incredibly rare. Your insights are valuable and give hope to others dealing with the same struggles. I appreciate your kind words and your openminded approach. It’s clear you’ve thought a lot about this, and I respect that. I hope I can overcome my own struggles with nihilism one day too. You’re right; we don’t really know what happen after death. It’s a complex question everyone needs to figure out for themselves. Staying humble and open-minded is important. Embracing the uncertainty of life and being open to different ideas can be really enriching. Many avoid these thoughts, but those who face them often find it changes their worldview in big ways. Thanks again for your kind words and insights. I wish you all the best on your journey too. Let’s keep thinking deeply and supporting each other in this exploration of life. Take care 💕💖

@@unknownking2708 No problem my friend, I really enjoyed talking to you about this topic! Yeah, I'm always happy when there is somebody capable of having a deep and civilized conversation :) Thanks for your kind words, means a lot. But I can tell you it took me quite some time. I'm not the kind of person to ignore these thoughts about life so I had to work my way through them. But it is possible and surely not just for me, I am convinced of that people can do it if they really want. But it takes time and lots of cognitive work. Some people might find it kinda silly to say that, but actually from my experience, after thinking about this for quite some time, the best is to say we don't know. So why not keep learning more and more about it? Why not go with the flow of life and enjoy it while we're gaining more knowledge? To say „we don't know, we should stay open for pretty much anything“ is a good way of dealing with existential dread. Nihilism can be paralyzing, thats why I prefer the approach I just described :) We don't know what actually is going on with existence as a whole or death. I know people hate uncertainty, but hey its not that bad at all! It is something to think about or discover in the future. Lets stay humble and open minded :) I'm sure you will find your individual way of dealing with these thoughts about life, if you need someone to talk to, please reach out ❤️

0:49 "1) An agent is responsible for an action only if the agent could have done otherwise" This is obviously backwards. If you are REALLY in control of your actions, then you will always do the ONE action that you want most. If there are _multiple_ possibilities, then this implies free will is FALSE since we only have ONE top preference. For free will to be true, there must be one and only one possible outcome: the action that the brain most wants to perform at that time.
